About An Comunn Uisge Beatha -- And How To Join!

Whisky and "Uisge Beatha"

The word "whisky" (or the Americanized form "whiskey") is derived from the Gaelic phrase "uisge bethea" (OOS-kah BEH-yuh) meaning "water of life." Single malt whisky is made only in the goose-neck pot stills using the finest ingredients: home-grown barley, water from mountain burns, native peat and good Scottish air. A whisky is termed "single malt" only if it is exclusively the product of the distillery whose name it bears. It is never mixed with any "grain" whisky (neutral spirits) or any other single malt whisky.

An Comunn Uisge Beatha

An Comunn Uisge Beatha (ACUB) is the Single Malt Whisky Society of the Washington DC area. ACUB is a non-profit educational society dedicated to promoting the appreciation and enjoyment of single malt whisky. ACUB holds frequent tastings to acquaint its members with the wide range of malt whiskies available and assist them in developing a discernment for the ones that best suit their pleasure. Annual membership dues are $30 and are due on April 1 of each year. Applications and dues should be sent to:
